To be frank, I previously thought this issue was a thing of the past. As far as I know, most cameras and smartphones now automatically address this problem. It's been quite some time since I had to deal with it.

Are you referring to older photos or newer ones as well?

Also, do you have a particular solution in mind? Currently, I'm exploring Mylio's approach to resolving this matter.

Cameras are good with redeye -- at the expense of immediacy. (They fire a pre-flash to cause the pupil to contract then flash again to take the photo, I think.)

My cat has pupils that don't contract well AND he's terrible for not holding the pose you want him to. :D

And not all photos in my library are new. Some are very old :)
