I have over 15,000+ family photos which have been digitized. The dates range from the 1860's to current (2023). It would be very helpful to have facial recognition so people can be more readily identified in the photographs. I previously used Google's Picasa to do this. If possible, it would be very helpful to be able to bring that format/information into the Photos application. In reading online chats about Picasa, there are many people besides myself who would like to be able to export from Picasa into a robust photo management software product.

I completely understand where you're coming from. I still use Picasa myself because I haven't found any other app that has all its features. The facial recognition feature, in particular, along with the ability to write it back to XMP metadata, is something that I haven't been able to find in other applications.
Photos is an attempt to bring back the Picasa experience with a modern UI that can run on multiple platforms.
I am personally hopeful that this feature request will receive many votes, making it possible for us to turn it into reality.
Status update: For the focus assessment Pro feature we implemented face detection.
The next step here is to do face recognition based on that.
This is still planned and on our list.
As face recognition has been on the list for over 12 months I think I will cance my subscription until it is a reality
@costello1947 Thank you for your feedback. It's always helpful to understand the reasons behind a cancellation so we can draw our conclusions.
I agree that face recognition is important. However, it currently has only 9 upvotes. While it's been on our to-do list for over a year, we prioritize tasks based on demand rather than the length of time they've been listed.
We look forward to welcoming you back once face recognition is implemented.
