changed title "
Unzufriden"Hello,
Thank you for reaching out.
The duplicates feature groups image series as well as copies of the same image in different locations.
Currently, the images are sorted by the date taken, and each photo is compared to the next one if it was taken within a 5-minute time frame.
Do your duplicates have a date taken set?
Kind regards,
Stefan
@stefan Ich bitte Ihnen in Deutsch beanworten, englisch ist fuer mich ein frend sprache

@ramseslaz
Hallo,

I have found this feature not working on my large photo collection. It did remove a few but this is one of my primary reasons for buying this product. I have multiple files with the same name but maybe different dates, but the file size is the same. I did just update the product today and it still seems to have not found any new duplicates.
Thanks,
Don

Hi Don,
Thank you for reaching out, and I’m sorry to hear you're not satisfied with the feature.
The primary intention of this feature is to group photos from an image series, like burst shots, together. Initially, it was designed to filter out duplicates from the "All Photos" view for a cleaner experience. We later added a separate "Duplicates" menu as an alternative way to view those.
Currently, the photos are sorted by their EXIF "date taken" (or "last modified" if EXIF is unavailable), and each image is compared to the next one for similarity—provided they are taken within a 5-minute window.
This approach works well for photos taken close together in time but may miss duplicates with vastly different dates. The reason we don’t compare every photo against every other one is that the time required grows exponentially, which heavily impacts performance on larger collections.
Are your photos direct copies of each other without EXIF data? If so, we might be able to detect them using file checksums. Alternatively, we could explore comparing files with identical sizes, which may help without significantly increasing comparison times.
I’m thinking of ways to improve the feature while maintaining efficiency for large collections.
How large is your photo library?
And did you use other tools for this task before?
Kind regards,
Stefan
I have duplicates because the camera produces 10-15 MB files and for many applications like email or for a webpage you need to shrink them. I always want to keep the biggest copy of file and be able to quickly find and delete the smaller copy but there does not appear to be any means of identifying them. The meta-data is the same other than resolution / file size, neither of which can be seen in this app.
Hi,
You can click on the image and then view the metadata, including resolution and file size, by selecting the "Info" button. This will help you identify which photo is the smaller copy.
I understand that for your workflow, those extra clicks can slow you down. It absolutely makes sense to include file size and resolution information more prominently, as just the filename and folder aren't always enough to make a quick decision.
Thank you for pointing this out - we'll work on improving that.
Kind regards,
Stefan
